Corcan Meadowood Residents Association

Meeting with MoT – May 19, 2010

Questions & Answers – September 26, 2010

1. Q What is the status of MOT efforts to open emergency access for emergency vehicles to Highway #19?

A Done.  CMRA, RDN and emergency services have been advised.

2. Q Is it possible to have an ambulance posted permanently at the Meadowood Fire Hall for medical emergency response?  Will you support the Ministry of Health in this initiative?

A The placement of emergency resources is the responsibility of others.

3. Q Is MOT aware of any grant programs available to study and recommend disaster escape route options for the residents of Meadowood?

A An initiative has begun. From David Jones’s July 17 email: “Strategic Wildfire, under the direction of the Regional District of Nanaimo, [is] developing a Community Wildfire Prevention Plan, (CWPP), for the Dashwood Fire Protection District, which includes Little Qualicum Estates area.”

4. Q Has MOT identified any other possible emergency escape routes that we can review with the Regional District of Nanaimo?

A No.  CMRA has been advised that the opportunity for road network review occurs at the subdivision stage and was not carried out as part of this development. This would have been considered by the RDN and by the Ministry if either agency had been asked for its input during the subdivision process.  As a strata, the developer was able to create the subdivision without consultation resulting in the current situation.

5. Q Will you research an escape route through the RDN Regional Park from Meadowood Road to the parking lot in Little Qualicum River Falls Provincial Park?  Will you design the ½ mile road for us?

A Disaster response falls under the jurisdiction of other agencies.  Escape routes and emergency response are not part of MOT’s mandate.

6. Q Will MOT please advise the Corcan Meadowood Residents Association of the status of negotiations with the RDN Electoral Area F Director, started in 2004, for public road access to Highway 4 from the south end of Corcan Road?

A Road access occurs as part of development.  When the opportunity arises, MOT makes every effort to protect road corridors identified within OCPs.  We will continue to work with the RDN on this and other corridors.

7. Q Would the Minister, or her representative, be available to speak to the annual general meeting of the Corcan Meadowood Residents Association on October 2, 2010?

A Yes, David Edgar and Barbara Thomas will attend.

8. Q Will the Ministry of Transportation provide answers to our questions and requests prior to September 17th for review at the AGM?

A Yes.
