Letter to Highways Department

Dear Johnathan,

As a follow-up to the Members and Owners requests at the Corcan-Meadowood Residents Association Annual General Meeting held on September 14th, 2013 below is a list of items related to the safety of our community.

1.) Although the yellow line is visible on Corcan Road, there are several spots on Meadowood Road that the yellow line is barely visible and on some parts not visible at all. This is very serious when there is extreme fog or heavy rain as we have no way to identify where the road is. This desperately needs to receive priority attention. Owners also expressed inappropriate passing on both Baylis and Corcan Roads and asked if we could request two double yellow lines to help deter reckless driving.
2.) At the top of Meadowood Road near the gates to Little Qualicum River Village on the right hand side of the road, there is a stretch of approximately 150 to 200 feet of ditch forming and it is washing away all the gravel right along the edge of the road, leaving the edge of the pavement with no support. We feel this needs to be repaired as soon as possible, otherwise the pavement along this stretch will start to break apart. The gravel also washes onto the road creating a skidding hazard. A wheel sliding off the pavement into this ditch would probably result in serious injuries.
3.) There are several holes on the driving surfaces on both Corcan and Meadowood Roads. In addition, there are four or five spots along the road on both Corcan and Meadowood Roads in high traffic areas (ie: Corcan- by the hydro poles, Corcan- by the house with the egg sales shed and Meadowood & Ashling – where the children catch the school bus) that have large chunks of pavement missing right along the edge of the road that have broken away and these areas will continue to break away, unless repaired.
4.) Tree trimming is needed on both sides of the road just before and just after the Underpass on Corcan Road. Visibility is seriously limited when these trees are in leaf.

If you would like to discuss these matters further, please contact me at (250) 729-7099 or
(250) 816-3130. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,

Elaine Peligren,
President
